Mahesh Babu is a great human being : Kriti Sanon

Kriti Sanon, who made a splash in T-Town is the face to look out for. She talks about her stardom, B-Town and more. When fans of actor Mahesh Babu got to know that Kriti Sanon would be paired opposite the star, they began searching the Internet to see how she looked and who she was. After going through her profile, they found she had done only a couple of commercials and had walked the ramp for a few designers.

Nothing fancy, but that was before her debut film released. Now, the actor is coming to terms with her stardom. "I didn't realise that I was doing such a big film! I was pre-occupied with other commitments. By the time I received the offer, the film had already taken off and I headed straight into the project, working and rehearsing. So, I was constantly busy. All the excitement surrounding Mahesh's new heroine (me) happened so suddenly and quickly, that it's yet to sink in," explains Kriti. 

The newbie's performance in the film has earned her brownie points among critics, and she's being hailed as the next big thing in Tollywood. And the appreciation that's come her way has taken Kriti by surprise. Quiz the former model how she's adjusting to her new-found stardom, and she says, "When people recognise me at airports and approach me for pictures and autographs, I can't believe they actually know me! The love that comes my way is such a nice feeling," says Kriti.

But her debut came with its share of controversies. A poster from the film showing Kriti crawling behind Mahesh, received a lot of brickbats, with people terming it 'misogynist'. Speaking on the controversial poster, Kriti says, "I'm an independent woman and a feminist. I would never do anything that's derogatory to women. The poster was a scene from a song and we shot the number according to the lyrics. It was a creative call, and our intention was never to portray women in bad light. I don't blame people for creating a hue and cry over it, since they saw the poster only in isolation." 

Born to a family of academicians, the decision to pursue a career in showbiz was a tough one. "After graduating, I began auditioning for films while continuing to model. I did a few fashion shows, ad shoots, and even got a few Bollywood offers, but nothing great. I was clear about the fact that my first film should be 'big' since it's the start of your whole career graph," explains Kriti.

The actor, of course, considers herself lucky to have bagged a role that gave her the chance to perform and showcase her acting skills. "Telugu movies are as good as Hindi films, if not better. I learnt a lot from the best in the industry and I hope it helps me in my future projects," says Kriti. 

She also has a few flattering things to say about her leading man, Mahesh. "Working with Mahesh has been an amazing experience. Not only is he a great actor, but also a fantastic human being, very down to earth. It's very important for a newbie to feel comfortable and confident while working with a superstar, and Mahesh made it very easy for me," points out Kriti. 

Despite being a model, the actor is not open to doing bikini scenes in movies. Lip locks too are out of the question. "I won't do anything that would embarrass my parents, since they too will be watching my films. There's a fine line between looking glamourous and vulgar, and I know my limits," explains Kriti, who is also gearing up for her Bollywood release, Heropanti, opposite star kid Tiger Shroff. Sharing her excitement, the leggy lass says, "I play a modern, yet conservative girl in the film and my role is extremely well-written. I hope it'll create a splash in Bollywood this summer."
